2 Months Down…10 to Go!!!

I am the sole member of my entire family that roots for the University of Michigan.  Granted, I grew up in northwest Ohio, but my home was closer to Ann Arbor than Columbus, so cut me some slack.  Doc blames my father (his oldest brother) for failing to raise me up as a Buckeye fan.  Either way, here we are in 2013, and I am still a diehard Michigan fan.  Michigan Vs. Ohio State football is arguably the best rivalry in sports.  Check that!  It IS the best rivalry in sports.  It was late in January that I made the comment to Doc that we should put something on the line here with his weight-loss goal.  I made the comment that he should have to get all decked out in Michigan gear if he doesn’t reach his goal.  He agreed, as long as I would do the same with OSU gear if he did reach his goal.  Then, he took it a step further, and said that the loser would have to wear the “enemy’s” clothes AT THE BIG GAME!  After the shock wore off of actually being Continue Reading »

Bert’s Bout with Back Pain, and How Decompression Helped

Let’s face it!  We live in a pretty skeptical society.  It’s getting harder and harder to trust people and businesses for that matter.  Everyone seems to have an angle.  That’s why the best way to grow a business is through referrals.  So, rather than us telling you why you should consider having spinal decompression done at Community Chiropractic & Wellness Center, we’ll let one of our patients do the talking for us.  Just click on the video below to see/hear what Bert has to say about his experience at CCWC!

The Business of Tithing

“A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord” – Leviticus 27:30

“Will a man rob God?  Yet you are robbing Me!  But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings.  You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of you!  Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,”says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.” – Malachi 3:8-10

The idea of tithing has been around for thousands of years.  In fact, it’s not as much an idea as it is a command.  Most Christians today apply this to their personal lives.  My wife and I for example; we give 10% of our income to our local church we attend.  We don’t really see this as an option, but do so out of obedience to scripture.  However, there aren’t too many businesses that follow this same model of giving.  Sure, there may be special fundraising days where a Continue Reading »

Custom orthotics help to realign your feet, help your posture, and allow your treatments to hold and last longer.

We see the need frequently in everyone from young adults to the elderly.  When you Continue Reading »

Healthy Eating

We all know that eating fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best things we can do for our bodies.  Did you know that organic fruits & vegetables are available throughout Elkhart and Lagrange counties by local farmers?
My wife Juli and I buy a regular share of produce each year from Farmstead Foods; a division of Pleasant Ridge Organic Farms.
The cost for a regular share of produce this year is $280 and a Large share $495. If paid before March 10th, a $20 dollar discount is given. The harvest usually lasts from June – September (16-18 weeks) and includes whatever is in season at the time.
We have really enjoyed going together as a family to pick up the produce. The Farmwald family are Amish, and just love showing our daughter Anna the Blue Bird houses and other farm animals. They also have a BBQ cookout with all the families to kick off the season.
For more information you can stop by our office to pick up a flier or contact Delbert Farmwald at 4055 N 1150 W Shipshewana, IN 46565.

Here’s to healthy eating,

Fevers: Good or Bad?

Fevers are the body’s response to fighting infection.  Many parents feel that they need to give a fever reducing medication as soon as a fever presents itself.  By doing this, they are interrupting the body’s natural flow in healing itself.  By giving fever reducing medication the infection will have potential to last longer and become more complicfeverated.

Our bodies elevate our temperature when we are invaded by an infection in order to help fight the infection.  Therefore, lowering our body temperature is bieing counterproductive.  Our bodies can still live and function if our temperature is 104F whereas the bacteria or virus cannot live with this elevated temperature.  They are comfortable when our body temperature is closer to normal (98.6F).   If fever reducing medication is continually given to keep the fever down or gone, we are just allowing the invader a chance to stay.  I tell my patients “it’s like hanging a welcome sign up for the invader!”

When should we worry about a fever?  In a child 3 months old or younger, a fever over 100.4F needs to be treated.  In a 3 month old to 3 year old, a fever Continue Reading »

Dysmenorrhea – How chiropractic can help with painful periods.

Many women dread that “time of the month.” The most common symptoms women experience are moderate to severe lower abdominal cramping accompanied by lower back pain either before or during menstruation. There is a very specific chiropractic protocol that can be done to help provide significant relief of these symptoms.  For the treatments to be most effective, they need to be given either the day before and the first day of menstruation, OR day one and day two of menstruation.  The treatments involve a full spine adjustment along with additional techniques to the tailbone and lower back musculature.  Scheduling these treatments around the days mentioned above for 3-6 consistent months have helped many women (including myself) diminish, if not completely relieve, the intensity of the symptoms experienced.

Laughter is Good Medicine!

A newly engaged couple was in my treatment room together for adjustments.  I was treating the female who was laying face down, and while I adjusted her Continue Reading »
