Functional Taping

olympickinesioWe all have seen it, but most aren’t sure what it’s used for.  It’s popularity has grown through both Olympic and professional athletes. This colored tape athletes wear to enhance their performance is also available to all of us. It’s called kinesio taping, spider tape, rock tape, etc.  It’s a new method of supporting joints and muscles without sacrificing range of motion. This tape is applied by a certified professional to treat pain, edema, and also for preventative maintenance.

This method basically stems from the science of Kinesiology; hence the name “Kinesio”.  Muscles are not only attributed to the movements of the body but also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature, etc. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms.

A New Year, A New You!

Who doesn’t like a fresh start, or beginning a new chapter in their lives?  Change can be difficult, but it can also open up the doors to a whole new world of possibilities and opportunities.  The one time of year that there seems to be an expectation placed on us to implement change in our lives is at the beginning of the new year; the notorious “New Year’s Resolution”!  Granted, we are nearly a full month into 2013 already, but my hope is that it’s not too late to either encourage a little change in your life, or to at least continue what you’ve already started.

Research shows that Obesity is now the #1 cause of preventable death in the US, overtaking smoking and tobacco use.  So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that so many people make it their resolution to start shedding the unwanted pounds.  Have you ever been to a gym in January?  You practically have to wait in line to us a piece of exercise equipment, because everyone else and their brother made the decision to get up off of the couch and do something about their health.  Unfortunately, this is not the case when you visit the same gym in March.  Statistically, nearly 40% of Americans give up on their resolutions after the first month.  This can be attributed to many factors from a lack of motivation, no accountability, no real strategy or plan to achieve said goal, etc… So, how can we help make this year different for you?
